LAST CHANCE TO ENTER!
With less than two weeks to go until Mawnan Fun Run, there is still time to enter this fun event for all the family. Falmouth Rotary Club is calling for people to get their running shoes on for the 10k, 5k or 1 mile children’s fun run which will all start at Carwinion Playing Field on Sunday 24th September at 10am.
The event has increased in size over the past five years with almost 250 competitors taking part last year and over £2,000 raised each year for local charities. Rotarian, Rod Allday, Chairman of the organising committee, said “We are hoping that this year’s event will be a record breaker but the closing date for pre-entries is at midnight on Sunday 17th September so competitors need to sign up soon in order to guarantee getting and medal and goody bag at the finish.”
The event offers something for everyone, with a 1 mile fun run around the village which is aimed at primary school children aged 11 and under, and 5K and 10k races for those who fancy more of a challenge. There will also be a barbecue, refreshments, a licensed bar, and lots more going on in Carwinion Playing Field during the morning.
The event has been really well supported by local businesses who have donated some excellent prizes for the winners of each race category. The Budock Vean and Meudon Hotels have both donated dinner, bed and breakfast for the winners of the 5k and 10k races, and The Cove, The Greenbank Hotel, The Trelawne Hotel and The Red Lion have all donated dinner for the age category winners. There will be trophies for the children’s age categories donated by Cornish Holiday Cottages.
Runners can enter online at www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk/entries and postal entry forms can be downloaded from the website. Entry on the day will be available at a surcharge of £2.00 per person but those runners will not be guaranteed to receive a medal and goody bag.
KIMBERLEY’S SIGN UP FOR MAWNAN FUN RUN
The Fun Run, which takes place this year on Sunday 24th September, has become a popular fixture in both the village and the road running calendar and draws competitors from all over Cornwall and beyond for the 5k, 10k and 1 mile children’s Fun Run. This is the fourth year running that Kimberley’s have supported the event by providing much needed finances to help cover the running costs which means that the majority of the money raised through entry fees can be donated to local charities. In the past Kimberley’s have also provided sports drink bottles for all competitors and this year they will be supplying something new for the goody bags which will be revealed on the day! As he handed over his cheque to the committee last week, Steve Kimberley said “Mawnan Fun Run is one of my favourite events of the year and I am always very keen to support the great work that Falmouth Rotary Club does in organising such a successful day. I’m really looking forward to being there on the day and cheering the runners on as they cross the line.”
Rotarian Rod Allday, chairman of the organising committee, encourages as many people as possible to enter in advance at http://www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk. “We have already received lots of entries to date but can only guarantee medals and goody bags to those who enter before the closing date which is at midnight on Sunday 17th September so runners need to make sure they don’t leave it too late!”
The event starts and finishes at 10am in Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith and, in addition to the races, there will be plenty of entertainment in the field for spectators and competitors so it always promises to be a great day out for all the family.

NEW ROUTE ANNOUNCED FOR 10K RUN
After four years of following a 2-lap route around the village, the organisers of Mawnan Fun Run are pleased to announce a new route for the 10k race when the event takes place this year on Sunday 25th September.
The 10k race, which was introduced when Falmouth Rotary Club took over the organisation of the annual event in 2012, has always followed 2 laps of the 5k route but it has always been an ambition of the organisers to find a suitable alternative that would avoid competitors covering the same ground twice. This year, the event will follow the 5k route from Carwinion Playing Field, through the village and out to Trebah Gardens but on their return through the village, the runners will then head up Sampys Hill, turning left opposite the garage and following the road through Tregarne and re-joining the main road at Penwarne before returning to the village and finishing back in the playing field.
Rod Allday, Chairman of the Fun Run Committee, said “We are hoping that this new and improved route for the 10k race will make the event more appealing to competitors and encourage an increase in entries this year. Over 200 people took part in total last year and we raised over £2,500, but we are keen raise even more this year. As in previous years, all monies raised will be split equally between Mawnan School PTA and Falmouth Rotary Club Charity Fund.”
Time flies – only 6 months until Mawnan Fun Run!
This year’s event will take place on Sunday 25th September 2016 starting at
10am at Carwinion Playing Field, Mawnan Smith, Falmouth, TR11 5JD.

always have some excellent prizes for the male and female winners of each
race and there will be goody bags and medals for all those who pre-enter.
